MDS_GatewaysDirect Funding, Innovation Voucher , From: Jan 2011 To: April 2011
The commercial need for the company was to exploit new opportunities for its VoIP PABX by extending the client software to smartphones, particularly the i-Phone. This extension allowed MDS Gateways to remain competitive in the marketplace while generating new revenues. The technical goal of the project was to research protocol changes and requirements needed to transfer PABX functionality and desk phone functionality to an equivalent i-Phone application.

The app was successfully developed and released through the iPhone appstore. It has been successfully deployed by many of MDS’s existing customers including KPN and Belgacom. The development has helped keep MDS competitive in the marketplace through staying abreast of technological changes and has helped ensure continued sales of its key VoIP product line.

AIT has received, and continues to receive, ongoing revenue sharing from sales of the new product. SRI maintains a close dialogue with MDS to understand evolving market trends and to explore future commercial possibilities.
